Baroque Tour
In Palermo the clergy was powerful and influential, and, since the 16th century it started a process of architectural renovation, in an attempt to conceal its medieval facets with rich and imposing buildings. The interiors of the churches dazzle the visitor with their streaked marbles walls and the Church of Gesù, Santa Caterina or the Concezione represent the highest expressions of the Baroque style. Other renown examples are soaked in candid white stucco, beautifully shaped by the mastery of Giacomo Serpotta. Therefore how to ignore the Oratories of Santa Cita, San Domenico or San Lorenzo? The city becomes a theatrical set where even the facades of nobles’ palazzi contribute to dramatize with their facades streets and squares like the Quattro Canti square. Besides, in Palermo, it is possible to visit prestigious Palazzi to capture the spirit and the splendour of the nobility of Palermo, such as Palazzo Mirto and Palazzo Gangi, whose ballroom was featured in the acclaimed film “Il Gattopardo”(the Leopard) by Luchino Visconti.

Monreale
You cannot come to Palermo and not visit the monastic complex of Monreale, the medieval town on Mount Caputo that overlooks the beautiful gulf of the Sicilian capital. In Monreale, the Norman king William II founded the magnificent royal Cathedral with its 6340 square meters of gold mosaics. Monreale Cathedral is the only medieval Catholic church with the largest surface illustrated with gold mosaic in the world, and it was completed in just 15 years. The Benedictine Cloister also boasts of being the largest medieval cloister in Italy with its 228 twin columns and sculpted marble capitals, each different from the other.

Cefalù is a picturesque seaside town developed at the foot of the famous Norman Cathedral of Cefalù, decored with gold mosaics. The original medieval layout at the foot of the “Rocca” and its suggestive corners such as the Arab washhouse makes it a popular destination for tourists who love culture and enjoy seaside holiday.
Segesta, Elymian archaeological site, political and administrative centre of this people of Trojan origins, shows off its beautiful Doric temple that stands on the hill and arises, solitary, a sweet melancholy. The Segesta Theatre is still used for theatrical performances and events
Erice, town sacred to the Elymians, located on Mount San Giuliano, it became the famous Carthaginian cult centre of the goddess Astarte, protector of sailors and goddess of love, the temple built in her honour later replaced by the Norman castle. From here you can enjoy an extraordinary view of Trapani, the grandiose salt pans and the Egadi islands. The Erice almond cakes by signora Grammatico are not to be missed.
Marsala, famous for the countless Marsala wine cellars, wine produced by some English families and exported around the world by the Florio’s merchant ships. The history of the unity of Italy started in Marsala, when on 11 May 1860, Garibaldi arrived with his 1000 men.
Mazara del Vallo, an example of a city where integration between cultures becomes possible, as witnessed by the lively and entirely preserved neighbourhoods of the casbah dating from its Arab past, but also by a large Magrebian community of fully integrated fishermen. The Normans spared Mazara from destruction and King Roger II endowed it with an imposing Cathedral.
Mozia, islet in the Marsala lagoon which was an important Carthaginian colony and that archaeological excavations have brought to light, making it an open-air museum revealing the religious, economic and artistic life of the Phoenicians. Influenced by the neighboring Greeks of Sicily they left us an absolute masterpiece: the statue of the Giovinetto di Mozia (“young man of Mozia”)
Selinunte, the largest archaeological Park in Europe, a Greek colony to the west of Sicily, eternal enemy of Segesta and the Carthaginians from which they suffered the first great destruction. The victors lived there living together with the surviving Greeks. An example of coexistence and forced integration ante litteram, which however, gave rise to works and artefacts that show their coexistence and mutual cultural influence.

Jewish heritage Tour
Palermo has witnessed the presence of the Jewish people since Roman times but it was in the Arab era that the Jews arrived in mass in Sicily and in Palermo they lived in the Giudecca district which, differently from other Italian cities, was not considered a Ghetto. Jews in Sicily were free, they only had to pay a tax, the Gizya, and had to show a sign of recognition; the Jewish community lived with the Arabs in the Arab neighbourhood and it is possible to recognize the urban layout in the city centre thanks to streets signs written in Italian, Hebrew and Arabic
